The Tide £200 offer, explained
How much is the Tide referral bonus worth?
Up to £200 in total. The NEW200 offer pays £75 for spending £100 on your Tide card within 30 days of opening, and £125 for depositing £5,000 into Tide Instant Saver within 7 days and holding it for one month.
Do I have to complete both steps?
No. The two steps are independent. Complete only the card spend and you receive £75. Complete only the savings step and you receive £125. Complete both and you receive the full £200.
Do I need a Tide promo code?
The code is NEW200. You can enter it when Tide asks for a referral or promo code during sign-up, or simply open your account through the referral link on this site and the offer is applied automatically. Either way, if you sign up without the code or the link, the bonus cannot be added afterwards.
Who is eligible for the offer?
New Tide business account members only. You must be a UK sole trader, limited company or partnership, be aged 18 or over, and not already hold or have previously held a Tide account.
How long does the cashback take to arrive?
Tide pays each part of the reward into your Tide account after the qualifying condition has been verified. Allow up to 30 days after completing a step for the payment to appear.
Is there a fee for opening a Tide account?
No. Opening a Tide Free business account costs nothing and there is no monthly fee on the Free plan. Transaction fees apply for cash deposits, withdrawals and transfers.
Does the £5,000 have to stay in the savings account?
Yes. The £5,000 must be deposited into Tide Instant Saver within 7 days of opening your account and remain there for one month for the £125 element to be paid.
Can I withdraw the money afterwards?
Yes. Tide Instant Saver allows instant access, so once the one-month holding period is complete you can withdraw your funds at any time.
Is the Tide bonus taxable?
Cashback received in a business capacity may count as business income. We are not tax advisers — speak to your accountant about how to record it.
Can existing Tide customers claim it?
No. The NEW200 offer is strictly for new business account members. Existing and previous account holders are excluded.
Is Tide a bank?
Tide itself is a business financial platform rather than a licensed bank, but Tide Business Current Accounts are powered by ClearBank, so eligible balances are protected by the FSCS up to £120,000.
How long does it take to open an account?
Most sole traders and simple limited companies are approved within minutes. You will need photo ID and your company details to hand.
What happens if I close my account early?
Closing your account, or withdrawing the savings deposit, before the qualifying period ends means that part of the reward will not be paid.
Does opening a Tide account affect my credit score?
Opening the business account itself does not involve a hard credit search. Applying for Tide credit products, such as a business loan, is assessed separately.
Can I have a Tide account alongside my existing bank?
Yes. Many businesses open Tide as a second account, claim the referral reward, and keep their existing banking in place.
What do I need to apply?
Photo ID (passport or driving licence), your UK address, and — for limited companies — your Companies House registration number and details of anyone owning more than 25% of the business.
End to end
How the £200 offer works, step by step
From entering the code NEW200 to the money landing in your Tide balance, here is the whole process and what has to happen at each stage.
Step 1 — Start with NEW200
Either click a claim link on this site, which applies the NEW200 promotion automatically, or type NEW200 yourself when Tide asks for a referral or promo code during sign-up. It cannot be added after the account exists.
Step 2 — Complete the application
You need photo ID and, for a limited company, your Companies House number. There is no credit check to open the account, and simple applications are often approved within minutes.
Step 3 — Spend £100 on the card for £75
Activate your Tide Mastercard and make at least £100 of business spending within 30 days of opening. Any qualifying card spending counts, and it can be spread across several purchases.
Step 4 — Save £5,000 for £125
Open Tide Instant Saver in the app, deposit at least £5,000 within 7 days of opening the account, and leave it in place for one full month. New members also get the top Instant Saver rates free for the first 4 months.
Step 5 — Get paid
Each element is verified by Tide after its qualifying period ends and paid into your Tide balance. The two parts are independent, so you can claim one without the other.
What if I miss a deadline?
You simply do not receive that element. Missing the savings window does not cancel the £75 spending reward, and vice versa — but neither deadline can be extended once passed.
Is the reward taxable?
A referral reward paid into a business account is generally business income and should be recorded in your accounts. Speak to your accountant about how to treat it for your business type.
Pricing
Tide fees and plan costs
How much does a Tide business account cost?
The Free plan costs £0 a month with no minimum balance. Paid plans are Smart at £12.49 a month, Pro at £27.49 a month and Max at £69.99 a month, each adding more included transfers, expense card seats and tools.
Are bank transfers free with Tide?
On the Free plan you get 5 free bank transfers a month, then each further transfer costs 20p. Paid plans include far more, and unlimited transfers on the top plan.
What does it cost to use the Tide card?
UK card payments are free. Card payments in a foreign currency carry a 2.75% FX fee on the Free plan. ATM withdrawals cost £1 each.
What are Tide's cash deposit fees?
Depositing cash at the Post Office costs 0.99% of the amount with a £2.50 minimum on the Free plan. PayPoint deposits cost 3%. If you handle a lot of cash, factor this in before switching everything across.
Does Tide charge for invoicing?
The Free plan includes 3 invoices a month. Beyond that you either pay per invoice or move to a paid plan, which raises or removes the limit.
What about CHAPS, payroll and accounting add-ons?
CHAPS transfers cost £15 each on the Free plan. Payroll is £12 plus VAT a month. Tide Accounting starts at £13.99 a month and is included free on Pro, and Admin Extra is included on Max.
Do extra expense cards cost anything?
On the Free plan each additional expense card seat is £5 a month. Paid plans include seats, so once you pass two or three cards a plan upgrade is usually cheaper.
Is there cashback on spending?
Cashback of 0.5% on card purchases is only available on the Max plan. The Free, Smart and Pro plans do not pay cashback on everyday spending.
Limits
Deposit, payment and savings limits
How much can I deposit into a Tide account?
There is no cap on money received by bank transfer into your Tide business account. Limits apply to cash deposits made over the counter at the Post Office or at PayPoint, which are set per deposit and per day and shown in the app.
How much can I pay out in a day?
Standard Faster Payments limits apply and are visible in the Tide app under payment limits. Larger one-off payments can be sent by CHAPS for £15, which clears the same working day.
Is there a limit on the Instant Saver?
Tide Instant Saver holds your spare cash with instant access. For the £200 offer you need at least £5,000 in it within 7 days of opening, held for one full month. Balances above the FSCS limit are still yours but are only protected up to £120,000.
Are there limits on ATM withdrawals?
Daily ATM withdrawal limits apply and each withdrawal costs £1. The current daily figure is shown in your app, and can be reviewed once your account is established.
Can limits be increased?
Yes, in many cases. Tide reviews limits based on your account history and verification status, and you can request a change through in-app support.
Your money
FSCS cover and account safety
Is money in a Tide account FSCS protected?
Yes. Tide business current accounts are Powered by ClearBank, and eligible balances are protected by the Financial Services Compensation Scheme up to £120,000 per eligible business.
Why £120,000 and not £85,000?
£85,000 was the previous FSCS limit. The protected amount for eligible deposits is now £120,000, and that is the figure that applies to eligible Tide balances.
What happens if I hold more than £120,000?
Anything above the limit is not covered by the compensation scheme. Businesses holding large balances often spread them across more than one provider to stay within the protected amount at each.
Is Tide itself a bank?
Tide is a business financial platform rather than a bank in its own name. The current account is provided in partnership with ClearBank, which holds the banking licence — which is why FSCS protection applies to eligible balances.
How is my account kept secure?
Card payments use Mastercard's standard protections, the app supports biometric sign-in, and cards can be frozen instantly in-app. Tide runs identity and business verification on every application.
Jargon
The words Tide uses, translated
Referral link
The tagged URL that connects your new Tide application to an existing member. Clicking it sets a tag that travels with your application — it is the only way the NEW200 reward can be attached.
NEW200
The internal name Tide uses for the current refer a friend promotion. It is the reason the offer is worth up to £200 rather than the smaller amounts paid by older Tide referral rounds.
Qualifying activity
The actions Tide checks before paying: £100 of card spending in 30 days, and £5,000 held in Instant Saver for one month. Each is checked separately.
Referrer and referee
The referrer shares the link, the referee opens the account. On NEW200 the referee — that is you — receives the up to £200 cashback.
FSCS protection
Tide Business Current Accounts are powered by ClearBank, so eligible balances are covered by the Financial Services Compensation Scheme up to £120,000.
Instant Saver
Tide's interest-paying savings account with same-day access. Funding it is what unlocks the larger £125 half of the referral reward.
Before you apply
A quick pre-application checklist
- 1
Open the referral link and complete the application in the same browser session.
- 2
Check you are applying for a business account, not a personal one.
- 3
Use the legal business name that matches Companies House, if you are a limited company.
- 4
Finish identity verification the same day — an abandoned application can lose the tag.
- 5
Activate the Mastercard as soon as it arrives so the £100 spend can be made in time.
- 6
Diary the 7-day savings deadline and the 30-day spending deadline on day one.
